Sothis weekend is Easter weekend, and I will say this about the French; They really know how to have a vacation. Pretty much every family is going somewhere this weekend. My host family is taking me with them to the countryside. I will make sure to take lots of pictures!
Yesterday and today were spent at the Louvre. I was really excited to go, but my feelings of euphoria were cut short around the time my Professor opened her mouth. She made everything seem SO BORING, and then, on top of that, she would get some of her facts wrong. I was so upset, I ended up teaching a few of my friends the right version all afternoon. I'm sure that Madame L. is a wonderful teacher in French; it's just that I have a feeling a lot of things were lost in translation, but it broke my heart to see people looking bored over the most fascinating pieces in the museum, just because she couldn't teach it right.
Okay, Okay. *off soapbox.*

The foundations of the original Louvre, which roughly translated to "fortress." It really was a fortress!

Winged Victory Statue of Nike. I very nearly cried when I saw this....

So I totally painted these last Saturday afternoon. No, seriously though, It is an intense experience to go into a room and see 24 wall-sized painitngs. These figures by Reubens are most definitely at least life-size, if not bigger.

Napoleon's Apartments. Seriously, can you imagine calling this your home?

My favorite pieces of the day. The sculpture is Eros and Psyche. *sigh*
So the French women (and men, for that matter) are so chic here! It kind of fascinates me. They really do not have "off days". As I hone my eye for French fashion, I realize that the things they wear are often comfortable, but not frumpy. Lots of miniskirts and boots with tights. And the HEELS!French women are not afraid of heels. At all. I have seen many a fierce Frenchwoman navigating the labryinth of the Metro is sky high heels without even looking the least bit flustered. They must have feet of steel, because I'm still wearing my Chucks everyday. But I will say this; Late in the afternoon, on the Metro, it is hot, and everyone is sweaty. And a lot of times, I've been shoved into someone's armpit and forced to stand there.
It's not pretty.
But I think I know why everyone is so sweaty--It's because they are overdressed! It wil be 65 degrees and they will insist on wearing a coat, or jacket. There is no need for that! Plus, everyone walks here, you warm up within five minutes anyway! I shed my leather jacket after day 6--with all the walking and the stairs, I just didn't need it. As a result, I have been a lot less perspirative.
They should take notes.
A Mardi! --C.
